Does your school comply with the Lindsay Ann Burke Act?

Not sure? Fear not! The Women's Center of Rhode Island offers free resources to help schools understand, meet, and exceed the stipulations of this recently passed Rhode Island legislation.

Hello,

My name is Kate Reilly and I'm contacting you from the Women's Center of Rhode Island. My colleagues and I are very pleased to hear about the recent passage of the "Lindsay Ann Burke Act" that will require all public middle schools to incorporate dating violence education into the annual health curriculum. Follow this link to learn more about the recent passage of this legislation by the Rhode Island General Assembly:

Dating violence is endemic in our nation's high schools, harming thousands of teens each year. Our agency sees the potential in this legislation to reverse this morbid trend, to empower youth to choose healthy relationships, and to save lives.

The Women's Center is eager to help  middle and high school leadership realize this potential. We are developing a product that will help schools to meet the stipulations of the Lindsay Ann Burke Act through  policy
consulting, professional development, and student education. Our representatives are experienced youth educators, trainers, and policy consultants.  We provide all of our services at no financial cost to the schools.

Our goal is to pilot this program in a handful of schools this Fall 2007 and  expand it in Spring of 2008. We are currently in the process of identifying partners.

To learn more about a partnership and strategies to help your school meet the requirements of the Lindsay Ann Burke Act, respond to this email or contact Kate at 401-861-1928. Please note that as we began this venture our
resources are limited, we are only able to being our services to a small number of schools. Preference will be given to those schools who contact us first!

We look forward to working with you!

Best,

Kate Reilly
