EDA Honor Award
The highest award the district can bestow upon a member. It represents professionalism, dedication, character, and service. To achieve this level of distinction is a testimony to one's career and involvement. Nominations of individuals should be sent directly to the district Honor Award Chair. Each state is also encouraged to nominate individuals through their Honor Awards representative to the district.
Given annually to up to two people in each discipline who best exemplify exceptional and outstanding contributions to their respective disciplines. Nominations should be sent directly to the EDA National/OPA Awards Chair. Each state is encouraged to nominate individuals through their Council for Services representative.
Given annually to an outstanding Undergraduate Student who exemplifies professionalism, academic achievement, service, and character. Institutions are encouraged to nominate deserving students. Nominations are sent directly to the EDA Robert M. Pate Scholarship Chair.
Recognizes an individual or organization making a significant contribution to the Eastern District Association/AAHPERD. Any individual or organization is eligible to receive this award, in that EDA and/or AAHPERD membership are not prerequisites, though exceptional leadership and/or service should be exhibited. The EDA-AAHPERD Council for Services solicits nominations through proactive identification of individuals or organizations deserving of this honor. The Council shall review all nominations and decide whether to recommend and then forward names to the Executive Board for final consideration and selection.
Presented to an individual who has contributed to the improvement of the lifestyle of the active older adult. The candidate must have fulfilled two of the following criteria: (1) Taught active older adult groups for a minimum of five years;(2) Conducted research that investigated more comfort or better health for the active older adult; 3) Fulfilled a leadership position or positions that organized older adult activities for a minimum of five years. (e. g. Senior Games). *[The district recipient is forwarded for consideration to the national CAAD Award committee of AAPAR.]
A woman serving in higher education actively involved in research, program development, activities in physical education, sports, exercise science, or related areas. Nominations should be sent directly to the EDA Margaret Paulding Lecturer Committee Chair.
Each year at the EDA convention, one undergraduate and one graduate student is recognized by the association through the Research Committee for a scholarly presentation based on individual research.
Presents the annual Memorial Lecture at the Eastern District conference. This individual is nominated by the Council for Conventions, approved by the Executive Board, and asked by the President to present the lecture.
The Outstanding Future Professional Award reflects EDA's commitment to Eastern District's future leaders. Each state, district, and territory in the District is eligible to submit two outstanding future professionals for recognition at the District level. Institutions of Higher Education should send their nominees to their State President, or state designated contact person, who forwards the two state names to the student advisor.
