Challenges Make You Stronger
Challenges make you stronger...This has been a challenging year. There have been many changes throughout the year, people writing curriculum, the new evaluation, and making sure we are in compliance with the law regarding standards based instruction. Change is never easy. Many of us have been evaluated using the new RI evaluation instrument and hopefully everyone is finding some positive aspect to all the work that is required. I have come to a new appreciation for collecting data and all the paper work that is required to show my students are doing what I think they are. With that said, the Spring Conference on Saturday, April 28 will be an excellent opportunity to meet some of the professional expectations of the evaluation. We have Judy LoBianco coming back from New Jersey to give the Key Note address. She did an awesome job last year with the students giving them ideas for resumes and interview techniques. There are sessions planned for those developing curriculums, continuing the evaluation process, activity sessions presented by RIC students and faculty, AHA will be there presenting health topics. There will be more information on the website as it becomes available. Pam Storme has sent out a survey on the list serve. If you could take a few minutes to respond to the survey it would help us make sure we are meeting everyone’s needs. I hope to see many of you at RIC on April 28! Cathy Moffitt RIAHPERD, ED

THE RESPONSIBILITY IS OURS The Story of Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody Once upon a time there were four individuals named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. But Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it. But Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about it, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, and Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody and Nobody did the job that Anybody could have done in the first place. At last report, these four individuals were still arguing and the job they were supposed to do still wasn’t done. The moral of the story is simple of course. It is the job of every individual involved in health, physical education, recreation and dance to stay alert and in touch with helping to keep our profession a strong part of our schools and community. We need help; there is never a perfect time to take on one more thing, but working together we can make sure we continue to provide excellent programs and provide information people need. We must continue to promote and advocate for our programs and support RIAHPERD in any way we can. We are excited to have students represented at the conference and so many RIC faculty offering to present. Now is the time to become involved join the executive board, there are descriptions on line of each role, nominate someone as Teacher of the Year, send us information on an excellent program you are doing to spotlight on the webpage or in a Newsletter. It is “Everybody’s” responsibility. If you think “Somebody” else will do it than “Nobody” will end up doing it. So please get involved in some small way. Thank you Steve Cohen, I am recycling your story because it still works. Cathy Moffitt RIAHPERD, ED |
